Science of Providing Natural Gas

Did you know that natural gas chiefly consists of methane (CH4), but also contains other hydrocarbons such as ethane, butane, propane and naphtha?

When many people think of natural gas, they think of the the rotten egg smell, but on its own, natural gas is completely odorless and colorless. It's also very flammable, so a substance called mercaptan is added to it so that it can be detected if there is a gas leak.

GUC provides natural gas through underground distribution lines that go through gate stations to lower the pressurization to levels that allow it to get to customers' homes safely.
