GUC Continues Tradition of Donating Blankets

For the fourth year in a row, Greenville Utilities is helping provide relief from the upcoming winter’s cold for some local residents by donating blankets to the Pitt County Council on Aging. GUC Energy Services and Customer Relations employees delivered 140 blankets to the Pitt County Senior Center on December 7.

"We've had a few cold days and nights this fall, but more consistent winter temperatures are just around the corner,” said Scott Mullis, Director of Customer Relations of Greenville Utilities. “We always suggest to our customers to set their heat to the lowest possible setting to save on home energy costs during the winter months, and blankets are an economical way to get some relief from any chill in the air. We know inflation is hitting people hard, so we increased the number of blankets this year and are pleased to provide them as a gesture of community support."

Rich Zeck, Executive Director of the Pitt County Council on Aging said, “In these economically challenging times for so many, particularly our seniors, GUC’s blanket program has been a Godsend for our homebound seniors. The blankets offer both warmth and comfort to our seniors who tend to keep the thermostat a bit lower to save a on their heating bills. Recipients are more than happy to accept these wonderful expressions on how GUC cares about the community.”

GUC has a variety of programs like this, including fan donations in the summer, to help customers. Other programs for helping customers are also available, including Beat-the-Peak, free home energy audits, and more. Visit guc.com for more about these programs.
