Greenville Utilities Crews will close a portion of Millbrook Street beginning Monday in order to make emergency repairs to a section of the sewer system. Hooker Road will then be closed about a week later for work there.
Crews made temporary repairs to a piece of sewer line on Hooker Road back in June, but recent heavy rains caused a sinkhole to develop which further damaged the sewer line. No sewage has been spilled onto the road or into the nearby creek.
Millbrook Street will be closed near the intersection with Hooker Road for approximately four weeks, beginning Monday, August 10. Hooker Road will be closed in the middle of that time so that crews can replace or rehabilitate approximately 700 feet of sewer under the road. A temporary bypass will be built in order for sewer service to remain uninterrupted during the repairs.
Motorists are encouraged to follow detour signs and avoid that intersection during construction.
The sewer line was installed in 1961 and is included in the fifth phase of an ongoing multi-year rehabilitation project of older concrete pipes. The GUC Board of Commissioners approved this phase as part of the current budget.
