Renewable Interconnection Frequently Asked Questions
For residential customers the maximum size system allowed is 20 kW-AC. For commercial customers the maximum size system allowed is 500 kW-AC. For generating facilities that exceed 500 kW-AC require a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) with North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) and design coordination with Greenville Utilities Commission.
Application Fee is $250 which will be billed against customer’s account as a one-time “Electric Solar Interconnection Fee” at the time an application is received. It is recommended to follow up with your solar provider to verify payment responsibility
The fee can be paid by Phone, In Person, or by Mail with the customer’s account number, address, and purpose of payment. To learn more about billing and payment, visit www.guc.com/billing-payment-options.
NET BILLING: Residential Renewable Excess Energy Buy Back Bi-Directional Metering
The Net Billing (Renewable Excess Energy Buy Back Bi-Directional) Metering Arrangement is available to residential customers planning to install a renewable generation system of 20kW-AC or less. This metering arrangement allows for generated energy from the renewable system to help in offsetting the amount of energy consumed from GUC. It also allows for the renewable system to have battery storage.
RULES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- One bi-directional meter with two metering registers with the ability to measure total energy consumed from and total excess energy supplied to GUC.
- Residential customer will also be assigned the ER-3 Electric Rate Schedule that can be viewed by visiting www.guc.com/electric-rates
- Customer billed for all energy in kilowatt-hours consumed from GUC at the Retail Rate
- Customer credited for excess energy in kilowatt-hours supplied to GUC at the Avoided Rate
- The amount of Excess Energy Credits (kWh) is limited to the amount of total Energy Consumed (kWh) from the Utility within the billing periods
- Excess Energy Credits are not allowed to accumulate is to be applied towards future bills
BUY ALL, SELL ALL - Bilateral Metering
The Buy All, Sell All (Bilateral Metering) Arrangement is available to residential customers planning to install renewable generation systems 20kW-AC or less AND to small or medium general service customers planning to install renewable generation systems 500kW-AC or less. With this arrangement, the renewable generation system is interconnected directly to the energy grid, and ALL energy generation is supplied directly to GUC. Customers are billed for all energy in kilowatt hours consumed from GUC at their existing rate schedule while being CREDITED for ALL renewable energy in kilowatt hours supplied to GUC. A renewable system with battery storage is not allowed for this metering arrangement.
RULES & REQUIREMENTS:
- Two uni-directional meters billed at their applicable electric rate schedules
- Bilateral Metering for Solar Energy Facilities (RR-3 Credit Rider) is added to customer's existing electric rate schedule
- Customers are CREDITED for ALL renewable energy in kilowatt hours supplied to GUC under RR-3 Credit Rider which can be viewed by visiting www.guc.com/electric-rates
- Total renewable energy supplied to GUC shall not exceed total energy consumed from GUC in kilowatt hours
- Excess renewable energy shall not accumulate and roll over to the next month's bill
