The Greenville City Council has appointed Robert (Bob) Shaw and Simon Swain to three-year terms on the Greenville Utilities Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Shaw is a retired Pulmonary Critical Care Doctor who served in private practice as well as taught at ECU and Pitt Community College. Commissioner Swain worked as a manager for DuPont before starting his second career as an Information Technology professional. He is now retired.
Dr. Shaw volunteered his time serving many community organizations over the years, including the City of Greenville’s Environmental Advisory Commission. “I have an environmental perspective and hope to demonstrate that with the activities that GUC does,” said Commissioner Shaw. “But at the same time, I also realize this is a business and you have to balance the environment with business issues.”
Dr. Shaw grew up in Atlanta and has lived in Greenville for the past 44 years. He has been married to his wife, Jon, for 51 years. They have four adult children. Dr. Shaw earned both his Bachelor’s and Doctor of Medicine at Duke University.
Mr. Swain most recently served on the City of Greenville’s Board of Adjustment. He said, “I enjoy giving back to and serving the community in whatever way I can be of value. I hope to be of value as a contributing member of this Commission.”
Mr. Swain grew up in La Grange and has lived in Greenville for the past 41 years. He has been married to his wife, Suzanne, since 1989. They have one daughter, Crystal. Mr. Swain earned his associate’s degree in Information Technology at Pitt Community College.
