GUC to Close Offices, Asking Customers to Conserve Energy

Published on: 02/01/26

Due to hazardous road conditions from this weekend’s snowstorm, Greenville Utilities’ offices will be closed on Monday, February 2nd. Crews will be on duty, ready to respond to emergencies around the clock.

Extremely cold temperatures – 10 to 20 degrees below normal – are driving unusually high energy demand across the East Coast, including the Carolinas. As a result, power supplies are limited.

We are asking all our customers to reduce their electric usage over the next 12-24 hours by lowering their thermostat 3-5 degrees cooler than where you normally set it.  Please avoid charging electric vehicles until the weather starts to warm up and demand goes back down. We’re also asking that in the morning customers postpone the use of major energy-consuming electric appliances such as stove, oven, and clothes dryer until the afternoon or evening hours.

If every customer does these things, it will have a significant impact on keeping our electric grid safe and the power flowing.

Customers are encouraged to please take note:

  • If customers need to report a utility-related emergency, they can call our toll-free Hotline at 1-855-767-2482 – that’s (1-855-SOS-2GUC).

  • Another way to report and also check on outages is with our outage map at guc.com.

  • Customers can still manage their accounts online at guc.com.

  • We will be posting storm updates on our website (guc.com), GUCtv (cable channel 35), Twitter, and Facebook.
