The GUC Board of Commissioners adopted the updated version of their Strategic Plan at their June 18, 2026, meeting. GUC has utilized strategic plans for decades to help guide and prioritize the Commission’s projects, policies, and actions.
“As a community-owned utility, we serve the best interest of our customers, so was important that we received their input on what they perceive as the current and future needs,” said Mark Garner, Chair of the GUC Board of Commissioners. “Staff worked very hard to hear what the community said and where we need to prioritize efforts to best meet those needs.”
For the last six months, GUC’s leadership has been working closely with Fountainworks, consultants who specialize in strategic plan development, to review and update the plan. They analyzed responses and input from the community, customer and employee surveys, and met with the Management Team and Commissioners. They also held focus groups with business and industry leaders, employees, elected officials, and groups who are dedicated to helping our community’s most economically vulnerable people.
General Manager / CEO Tony Cannon said, “In the end, we discovered that the plan we have been following for two decades has been doing a good job of guiding GUC, and very little needs to change. We will continue moving forward with a few changes to the plan, but with continued focus on things like cost and affordability, reliability, and safety.
