Visit our Clean Future web page https://www.guc.com/clean-future 3 days 6 hours ago Survey says . . . our aquatic friends are thriving! Last Friday was an exciting day at our Water Treatment Plant. Environmental consultants Three Oaks Engineering conducted an important Endangered Species Survey before work can begin on stabilizing the riverbank at our intake screens. Riverbank stabilization is important for both the health of our river and its inhabitants as well as our water treatment process. Our consultants, dressed in dive gear, covered underwater ground 500 meters upstream and 100 meters downstream of our Plant’s intake screens. Required by the US Fish & Wildlife Service, last Friday’s survey shows that our aquatic residents are thriving and will not be disrupted by the upcoming riverbank project. The survey notes that this area of the Tar continues to support a diverse group of mussels critical to the natural cleaning of our river water, as well as the endangered Neuse River Waterdog found only in the Tar and Neuse River basins. City of Greenville, NC - Government used these consultants earlier in the summer and found similar species thriving along the Town Common area of the Tar (in preparation of their bulkhead construction). In both instances, any mussels found near these two project zones were carefully moved to protect the Tar’s unique biodiversity! 4 days 2 hours ago Energy Services Specialist Jonathan Sergeant visited with our customers at the Pitt County Council on Aging Ayden Senior Center this morning.
