14 hours 45 minutes ago Today we go behind the scenes with the industrial and residential repair technicians in our Meter Section. This group is broken into two groups of specialists: water/gas repair and electric repair. From residential meter repairs to calibrating industrial meters, their attention to detail and consistent service is vital to the success of GUC and our entire service area. It’s not only about getting accurate data – it’s also about saving money for all of our customers. A typical day for them involves: • Calibrating 30-40 gas & water meters - recalibrating if a meter doesn’t pass the test • Testing & repairing aged meters approaching the end of their life cycle (~1,500-2,000 gas & water a year) • Testing large industrial meters for accuracy • Calibrating high-usage (commercial) electric meters (~400-600 of these a year) • Catching and fixing issues during routine meter checks before they become costly problems Their hard work both in the shop and out in the field ensures that all meters and billings are accurate – providing a vital service to our customers and our community. 1 day 14 hours ago 👏 Shoutout to one of our Tree Trimmer Crews for their excellent work! Ms. Fisher called in to thank Matt McLawhorn, Taylor Braxton, Josh Greer, Chase Hudson, and Bryce Henderson for being so kind and respectful of her yard while doing work nearby. She said they “did a great job and she really appreciated them.” 3 days 14 hours ago Join us as we take a quick dive behind the scenes with our Meter Section! This group of employees works closely with all of our departments and our customers and are often the first point of contact for customers. We’re focusing today on our technicians who handle meter reads and services. Later in the week, we’ll go behind the scenes with our repair technicians. A snapshot of their day looks like this: • Driving through neighborhoods to read and check on meters, totaling 1.7 million readings yearly • Occasionally digging through dirt and mud to manually read stubborn meters • Connecting and disconnecting utility services as requested or required • Reporting and responding to equipment issues to maintain service reliability • Communicating clearly and respectfully with customers • Handling service orders during the 24/7 call rotations Their hard work in the field ensures accurate readings, reliable service, and a smoother operation for all of our customers – one meter at a time. 1 week ago Happy World Emoji Day! 🎉 Let's celebrate by sharing our favorite emojis. Help us safely access your water, electric, or gas meter by: 🚗 Keeping it clear – Don’t block meters with vehicles, trailers, or garbage bins. ✂️ Trimming back grass, bushes, and trees – Overgrown vegetation can hide hazards like snakes and wasps, and make it harder for our crews to do their job. A clear meter ensures we can read and service it quickly and safely, especially in emergencies.
