Does GUC Estimate Meter Readings?

One of the many benefits of GUC's use of Automated Meter Reading (AMR), is that it has virtually eliminated the need to to estimate meter readings.

In the past, when a meter was not accessible due to a locked fence or dog, it may have been necessary to estimate a meeting reading. Now, because meter data is collected electronically with AMR, Meter Readers no longer need physical access to the customer’s home or business. They are always able to obtain the reading because they do not need to visually see the meter. GUC vehicles equipped with on-board computers automatically collect accurate meter readings simply by driving past the metered property.  

The only times meter readings are estimated currently are in extreme circumstances, such as a house fire when the meter is destroyed.

Meter Section staff still perform meter re-reads at a customer’s request. During re-reads, the Meter Reader looks for any meter malfunctions as they double-check the meter reading.
