Employees from the Greenville Utilities’ Electric Department recently participated in the American Public Power Association (APPA) Lineworkers Rodeo in Oklahoma City, OK. Teams from around the country competed in a series of events demonstrating the safe work practices that lineworkers use in their jobs every day.

GUC had a four-person Journeyman Team: Overhead Lineworkers Joey Dash, Connie McGowan, Brian Baker, and Tree Trimmer Brandon Butler. Journeymen have more than four years of experience in the electric utility industry.  Jeremy Page, Overhead Lineworker, was part of the North Carolina Association for Municipal Electric Systems (NCAMES) team due to his outstanding performance at the 2013 NCAMES Rodeo.

The Greenville Utilities team won second place in the Hurt Man Rescue event and placed eighth overall in the Journeyman category.

“What an outstanding accomplishment for these guys, especially considering they were part of the largest group of competitors for this rodeo, which was 855 linemen,” said General Manager/CEO Tony Cannon. “I’m really proud of our team.”
