The Joint Greenville Utilities/City of Greenville (COG) Wellness Program was recently presented with the Gold Apple Award as part of the WorkHealthy North Carolina Initiative during the 15th Annual Meeting of the NC Prevention Partners. The Golden Apple Award is presented to organizations who have established a culture of wellness for their employees by providing delicious, affordable and healthy food to all employees all the time.
This is an award offered to workplaces in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and New York City through the WorkHealthy America program. NC Prevention Partners have worked with hospitals on this program in the past and recently opened up the evaluation process to include businesses.
Our joint Wellness program received an A+ on the Nutrition Module of the WorkHealthy assessment. Both GUC and COG promote a healthy food environment with policies and benefits to support employees in making healthy food choices. Some examples include healthy food choices in all vending machines, healthy food alternatives provided at employee meetings, the fresh fruit initiative this summer that began in June, and the healthy lunches provided to employees who participate in the semi-annual Wellness Walks or the monthly Wellness Lunch and Learn meetings.
“It’s an honor to receive an award like this,” said Patrice Alexander, Human Resources Director. “It’s also exciting to see our Wellness Program continue to grow each year with new initiatives and increased participation.”
