GUC Decreases Natural Gas Rates
December 1, 2011
While federal energy officials are predicting higher heating costs this year, about 4% more for natural gas, that won’t be the case for Greenville Utilities’ customers. In fact, GUC is decreasing natural gas rates, effective December 1.
Depending upon the amount of gas used, residential natural gas customers will see a decrease of approximately 3.4%. A typical wintertime residential natural gas customer using 75 ccf would see a decrease of about $2.93 per month.
Wholesale natural gas prices have continued to decline due to increasing supply and decreasing demand. As a result, the market price of natural gas has decreased significantly, and GUC is passing those projected savings on to our customers.
Including this most recent decrease, since August 2008, GUC has reduced customers’ gas rates 10 times, for a total reduction of about 44% or $54/month based on average residential usage.
