For the fourteenth year in a row, GUC is helping area residents beat the heat with free fans. Energy Services purchased 100 fans and delivered them on July 6 to the Pitt County Council on Aging and the Department of Social Services. The agencies will make sure that they are distributed to their clients who need them the most.
We all know that summers are hot here in Eastern North Carolina. Temperatures reach the upper 90’s and the heat index goes even higher. Fans are an economical way to help beat the heat, either alone or used with air conditioners. “It will only cost about 5 cents to run a fan for 8 hours,” said Andy Yakim, Energy Services Supervisor.
“The heat and humidity of our summers can be brutal for families without air conditioning or fans,” said Ron Elks, General Manager/CEO. “We are pleased to support our community with these fans. We hope they will help to make the warm temperatures a little easier to handle.”
