GUC Awarded NC Leadership in Sustainable Energy Award
Greenville Utilities was awarded the North Carolina Leadership in Sustainable Energy Award on March 29 at the State Energy Conference in Raleigh. The North Carolina State Energy Office issues this award.
The E-300 Home Program has been promoting energy efficient construction for last 28 years. This award program for residential and light commercial structures sets the standard for energy efficiency in the community. To meet E-300 program requirements, builders and homeowners submit plans for evaluation by an Energy Specialist. Recommendations for insulation and other energy-saving features are made on the basis of a computerized load calculation. If the structure’s heat loss falls within acceptable levels, the house qualifies for the E-300 award. To verify installation of energy efficient features, the structure is carefully inspected at several stages of construction.
Since the program began in 1978, 11,068 homes and commercial structures have passed the rigorous E-300 standards. Builders and homeowners alike have come to realize that the E-300 designation is an important check point in any home buying decision. This program is so pervasive in the Greenville area that it captured 70-80% of the market for more than a decade and still captures 50-60% of the Greenville market today. Community partners include 89 builders, 9 insulators, 15 heating and air conditioning contractors and the local community college. “In a day when utility conservation programs typically refer you to a website,” wrote Phillip Bisesi of ElectriCities, “GUC has maintained and grown their services to their customers.”
The E-300 Home Program is a component of GUC’s Energy Services Office, which offers a variety of services to help consumers use less energy and save on their utility costs. To learn more, click here.
