GUC Lifts Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert
Due to improved weather conditions, at its May 20, 2008 meeting Greenville Utilities Board of Commissioners approved lifting the Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert that had been in effect since December 2007. The first of GUC’s three-stage Water Emergency Management Plan, Stage 1 advised voluntary water restrictions such as limited use of dishwashers, limited vehicle washing and minimum watering of lawns and shrubbery.
“The N.C. Drought Management Advisory Council recently changed the Pitt County classification from moderate drought to abnormally dry,” said Ron Elks, Greenville Utilities General Manager/CEO. “Some portions of eastern Pitt County are no longer under any drought classification. There has been near or above average rainfall during the past few months, and river levels are normal for this time of year. As a result, we are pleased to lift our official Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert.”
Greenville Utilities continues to encourage customers to use water wisely, however. “It is a good practice for customers to monitor water usage and use only what they need, year round” said Elks. “It makes good sense from both an environmental and economic standpoint to do so.” For water-saving tips, click here or contact Energy Services, 551-1525.
