Greenville Utilities supports innovative ways to use and conserve energy sources that protect our environment. Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar energy, are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the nation’s energy needs. Today, there are many renewable technologies that are commercially available to homeowners and businesses that can be safely interconnected to our electrical grid. These resources are important to GUC’s balanced approach to meeting our region’s growing electrical needs and helping to establish a cleaner energy future.
Customers may sell the total output of their renewable energy resources to Greenville Utilities. Customers under this arrangement may also be eligible to receive additional incentives from NC GreenPower.
GUC customers who own their own renewable electric power generation sources can interconnect to the Greenville Utilities system by following the step-by-step application process listed below.
1. Customer or Contractor submits interconnect application to GUC.
2. Customer or Contractor submits application to NC Greenpower for renewable generator credits.
3. GUC requests approval from NCEMPA and Progress Energy for customer generator inter-tie.
4. GUC receives approval from Progress Energy for system connection.
5. Electrical Contractor obtains permit from City or County.
6. GUC meets Electrical Contractor on site prior to work commencement to discuss meter location and project schedule.
7. Electrical Contractor completes system installation.
8. Electrical Contractor contacts and schedules GUC for utility connection to generator meter.
9. GUC installs utility connection and generator meter.
10. Electrical Contractor obtains final electrical inspection.
11. Upon receiving final electrical inspection certificate, GUC and Electrical Contractor schedule system startup and activate meter.
