GUC earns NCWOA Awards 

Rick Langley, Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, received the Operator of the Year Award “for outstanding ability and devotion to the art and science of water supply and purification.” He was presented the award at the NC Waterworks Operators Association (NCWOA) annual meeting on September 27 in Raleigh. This award is given to recognize individuals for outstanding performance, professionalism and contributions to the water treatment profession. Selection criteria include professional growth and continuing education, new ideas or improvements developed for an existing facility and the ability to serve the best interest of the community.

Rick is past Chair and current Board Member of the NCWOA Board of Examiners and Vice President of the NCWOA. He is a certified Grade A Well Operator and Grade A Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator. He is a member of the AWWWA/WEA and the NC Rural Water Association. In accordance with state regulations, Rick is also the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) of the Water Treatment Plant.

Also at the NCWOA meeting, Ron Elks, General Manager/CEO, was presented “Life Membership” in the NC Waterworks Operators Association.

The NCWOA supports professional growth and education for North Carolina waterworks professionals.
