Neighbor to Neighbor

What is Neighbor to Neighbor?
It is an
assistance program that provides funds to help pay heating bills through voluntary donations by GUC customers. GUC matches donations, up to $20,000 each year.

Who decides where the money goes?
The Pitt County Department of Social Services screens applicants, determines who qualifies and distributes the funds during the winter heating season, December through March.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. GUC will provide you with a letter each year summarizing your contribution.

Does the program have any overhead or administrative costs?
No. 100% of donations go directly to assist families with their heating costs.

What kind of heating methods will the program cover?
Funds are used to pay for all types of fuels used to heat homes – kerosene, oil, natural gas, electric heat, wood, etc.

Can my contribution be added to my monthly bill?
Yes. You can make an automatic monthly donation to be added to your GUC bill year round. You can also make lump sum donations by check or cash.

Can my church or civic group help?
Yes. We encourage groups to “adopt” Neighbor to Neighbor. Please email us or call 752-7166 to find out more.
