GUC Achieves Safety Milestone
October 12, 2010

Greenville Utilities has achieved a major safety goal -- one million consecutive man hours without any lost time due to injuries. This safety accomplishment took GUC’s 435 employees more than 14 months to accomplish.

“This is a huge milestone that we've had in our sights for quite some time," said Ron Elks, General Manager/CEO. "Each employee is responsible for helping us achieve this goal, and I'd like to thank everyone for their efforts. Safety is an integral part of GUC’s corporate culture and this milestone is solid proof of our collective effort to maintain the highest safety standards.

“This is the first time in our 105-year history that GUC has recorded such a stellar safety record,” said Elks. “We have come close to the one-million man hour mark before. On the road to this goal, in 2009 we worked more than 600,000 consecutive hours before an injury occurred; our best record up to that point. By combining this previous record with our current achievement, we have successfully worked 1.6 million man hours (with just one injury).”

"By no means are we done," said Kevin Keyzer, Safety Officer. "There are still improvements to be made and we're not done with achieving more milestones through the hard work of all employees."
