GUC Helps Keep Greenville Cool
June 25, 2007
Greenville Utilities helped take the heat off some local residents by purchasing 105 fans area residents in need. The fans were delivered to the Council on Aging on June 22 for distribution by the Council on Aging and the Department of Social Services. The agencies will make sure that they are distributed to their clients who need them the most. This is the fifteenth year that GUC has provided fans to be distributed to the elderly, handicapped and qualifying families with small children.
You don’t need to be in Eastern North Carolina very long in the summer to know that it gets hot here! Fans are an economical way to help beat the heat, either alone or used with air conditioners. “It will only cost about 5 cents to run a fan for 8 hours,” said Andy Yakim, Energy Services Supervisor.
"High temperatures can create a real hardship for many families who suffer because of lack of air conditioning or fans," said Ron Elks, General Manager/CEO of Greenville Utilities. "We are pleased to provide the fans as a gesture of community support. We hope they will help to make the warm temperatures a little easier to handle.”
